Christmas is arriving and so with it brings bundle of joy and happiness. But, among all these most pet parents are unaware about the danger they pose to their furry pals unknowingly.
According to special reports from Animal Health Centres, during Christmas 500,000 dog owners put their furry friends at risk by feeding them harmful food. It further adds that about 61% of owners will involve their dogs at dinner tables for Christmas feast.
Surprisingly, most of them around 50 % would feed their pooches with harmful human food such as chocolates, raisins and cakes in spite of knowing that they are very much dangerous for their pet’s health.
Shockingly, numerous studies reveal different things, which may surprise you.
- Dog owners feed their pets indulgent foods over the holiday season.
- Half of the owners confront that they feed their canines with human food during Christmas as they feel that their four-legged companions are part of their family.
- About 71 percent says that they feed their pooch turkey in gravy and 28 per cent savor them with stuffing – intake of both can lead to vomiting or diarrhea.
- Moreover, owners also don’t want that their furry pals miss out the mince pies during Christmas period. Around 10 per cent of dog owners give their furry kids mince pie unaware of the fact that the raising and sultanas present in the pie have the dangerous effect on the kidneys. In the worst case, it may lead to kidney failure also.
- The research shows that around 20 % pet owners think of giving ‘treats’ as it is a special occasion - Christmas - coming once in a year.
- Due to the indulgence of delicacies, the survey shows that around 15 per cent pet parents have to take their furry friends to a vet over Christmas because of illness pet suffer due to savouring those different human foodies.
During Christmas, pet owners need to be very careful about indulgent foods at the Christmas table.
However how much you love, take care that you do not feed your lovable companion with those human sweets.
Be aware that if you share your Christmas table food with your pooches, they can face different health hazards including behavioral changes, obesity, hyper-activity and dominance.
