Have you recently adopted a puppy? If yes; you would be yearning to make him learn different things in the coming months. Every dog owner wants his furry pal to be confident and fearless and there is no doubt that you would want this for your pup. The most important thing that can aid you in this endeavor is by exposing your furry pal to new experiences as soon as he enters your house.
While exposing your pup to these experiences ensure that he gets enough playtime so that he not only gets an adequate growth in terms of different environments but also has adequate fun time that makes him feel wanted. To make him the part of your wonderful family and to ensure that he is confident when he grows up it is essential to follow certain tips.
Let us look at them given below:
- Walk your puppy on seven different types of surfaces including concrete, dirt, gravel, grass, carpet, wood chips and vinyl. Remember, each different texture will teach your furry pal something different. A different footing would be required for each of these textures. Ensure that your pup is unafraid when he walks on these textures under the pads of the feet.
- Play with seven different types of play objects to stimulate learning in your pup including big balls, fuzzy toys, paper/cardboard, small balls, metal items, soft fabric balls, and squeaky toys. Ensure that the metal items are without sharp edges. During the play time ensure that your pup is fully supervised for his complete safety.
- Make your pup roam freely in seven different types of location in the house, including basement, kitchen, garage, front yard, laundry room, bathroom, backyard, and car. Ensure that your little pal knows about all these locations and ensure that all of these spaces are safe for him. This would ensure that he has a pleasant experience whenever he goes to any of these areas.
- Introduce your puppy to seven different types of people, including children, people with canes, walkers, or wheelchairs, babies, people wearing hats, people in uniforms and men with beards. This will ensure that your furry pal has the necessary exposure to different types of people so that he does not develop a fear in near future when he sees any of these people approaching him.
- Give seven different challenges to your pup for problem solving including: playing hide and seek, going through a tunnel, climbing up the stairs, climbing down the stairs, running around a fence, going in and out of a entrance with a step up or down, climbing over obstacles, and climbing off the top of a box. You can even include other challenges which would enable your pup to solve new problems.
- Give meals in different containers, including paper, pie plate, metal, china, cardboard, plastic, and a frying pan. You can even use a food-dispensing ball for slow way to serve a meal while your puppy learns to push the balls around the house to retrieve his meal.
- Make your pup eat in different locations of the house, including basement, an RV, living room, kitchen, yard, bathroom, crate, or even your laundry room. The basic objective of this exercise is to make the puppy aware that wherever you give him food it will always be yummy for him.
- Expose your puppy to different types of noises which would not scare him. This can include loud music, sirens, vacuums, fireworks, dog parks, crowds, landscaping equipment, and thunder.
